The Hours(2002)

With some exemplary acting, this film is a treat to watch. However it might be a pain to watch as it lacks any 'entertainment' or sense of humor.

I must admit I did not understand the film totally. yet the film mesmerized me, Nicole kidman as a submerged writer who lives submerged in a the lives of the books she writes is awesome...The cinematography and dialogues transport you to a reel life... The film questions the basic meaning of life..The value of life...Life is to live in the way that gives u happiness, any confinement..wotevr be the reason will turn you unhappy, the quest of the women in the film is to escape that confinement that the society imposes on them.

Well I would be glad if you leave me a note if u understood something more about the film..

Overall 7.5/10

Cinematography 8.5/10

Sunrise(1927)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0018455/

Dont confuse this movie with Before Sunrise. It is an old black and white movie with no dialogues... only background score. But then this movie doesnt need any dialogue. It is a depiction of the song of love.. which can be expressed only by the language of the eyes or maybe a gentle caress of the hair...Words would certainly have diluted he beauty of this movie....I am not a big romantic movie fan, this movie stands as one of the best romantic movies I have ever seen....

The cinematography is awesome, leaves you gaping at the mesmerizing effects that motion camera in 1927 could have achieved....Watch this movie in any state of mind, I am sure you will be sucked into the movie....The story with obvious twists and turns will take you through a journey via a barrage of emotions......

Overall 9/10
Cinematography 9.5/10
Acting 8.5/10

Days of Heaven(1978)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077405/

What set me looking for this film was this comment by an IMDB user
"Then Malick, in a moment of genius, allied the four main characters to the four elements; Earth, Air, Fire & Water. Bill is Fire - he is seen at first in front of the furnaces of a foundry where he works. We can see his temper is volatile. Abby is water - in the very first shot she is scavenging(?) by a stream and she is seen against the backdrop of the river. Linda is Earth - In her narration she says that she is close to the "Oith". The Farmer is Air - constantly tinkering with his weather vane, and his fields of wheat are often seen waving in the wind."

This film is a masterpiece. It shows the life of migrant workers in the cowboy American days through the eyes of a 13 yr old. The plot is a simple love triangle....but perhaps the best ever on celluloid...The cinematography and the wonderful score by Ennio Morricone make the dialogues redundant....you simply get mesmerized by this film...It like gazing over a landscape while a genius plays scores for you....With touching characters and realistic acting...you oughtta love this film...but let me remind you that this film is slow so you might not enjoy it unless u hv patience....

Rainman (1988)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095953/

Traverse this emotional journey with Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman. The film is about the connection that develops between a selfish brat (Cruise) and the autist (Hoffman) who happens to be his brother.

It might get on Cruise's nerves but the childlike behavior and comments of Raymond(Hoffman) will definitely create a niche in your heart...To him, a kiss is just wet....Money doesnt hold any value....he lives in a world of his own..but... probably thats better than the selfish materialistic world that we live in.

Dont miss this fascinating, poignant and profound film...U will feel the connection...

Overall Rating 8/10
Acting 9/10
Background music 8/10
Connection with the audience 8.5/10

The Apartment(1960)

This is one of the best lighthearted but black comedy.
"We are all Robinson Crusoes stranded in the sea of 8 million people." Thats the central theme of the movie...The advancements of man has just made him more lonely..(I smell a similarity of theme to Contact..I know many of u wont agree with me)..We hv become more materialistic and wealthy, but at the core we are impoverished..gaunt and emaciated from the pangs of seclusion. This might lead us ahead in a rat race but at the end of the day, when u bid adieu to the world, will it hold any meaning to you???

I hv drifted a bit, but those were my musings. Watch this superb comedy with outstanding acting and simple plot...
